Conventions & Competitions
First and foremost, conventions and competitions are educational experiences. Exposing our students to nationally recognized teachers at conventions makes for an energizing experience that helps to light the fire of contagious enthusiasm.
The students of Dance Dimensions have come out top overall winners at many regional competitions and, yes, even at the national level. We have had students place in the top three overall places at the international level. Winning is great, but learning is essential..
Competitions are a clarion call to work on performance skills and understand what is required to make a performance stand out. There is also the opportunity to have professionals critique performances. Someone other than one's teacher pointing out weaknesses can be a "performance" changing experience.
Starbound members are required to attend several conventions and competitions every year. Any student in the studio can attend conventions with the studio and is encouraged to do so. We have recently added a competition class for younger students who are interested in competing and working towards becoming a member of Starbound.
Here are some of the competitions and conventions that we have attended in the past: L.A.D.F. , the Pulse, Jump, Urban Jamm, L.A. Elite, L.A. DanceMagic, Encore, Starquest, West Coast Dance Explosion, Monsters of Hip Hop, K.A.R., PrimeTime, Spot Light and others.
During the summer, Louise Leise, our artistic director, regularly takes students to L.A. to train at the professional studios in Hollywood.
