a Liberal Arts Dance Education
"Education should not be so much about filling a bucket,
as it is about
lighting a fire."
Aspects of Dance Dimensions

Liberal Arts Dance Education - liberal arts describes a philosophy of education where balance of knowledge is emphasized. For Dance it means that a broad spectrum of  dance forms and styles - Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pointe, Modern, Lyrical etc. are presented, thus providing a broad platform to launch in any direction after participating in our program. The definition of liberal arts education is to come to the learning of different subjects without bias. There is an esthetic to Tap dancing that gives it a value that is neither greater or lesser than Hip Hop or Ballet. It is simply different. That does not say that values are not placed on different dance styles. For example, since Ballet has such a long physical history, a student is well advised to make Ballet training a core portion of their training so as to train physical placement and hence avoid injuries.

Master Classes - thoughout the year Dance Dimensions brings in working professionals who teach a series of classes and usually they will set choreography on the dance company.

R.A.D. Program - The Royal Academy of Dance is the largest worldwide ballet certification program. Students can also take open ballet classes, which are not tied to the R.A.D. syllabus.

Cecchetti Ballet Program - a balanced analyzed system of Ballet training with careful regard to the laws of anatomy. This is also a worldwide certification program. Students can also take open ballet classes, which are not tied to the Cecchetti syllabus.

Open Ballet Classes - these ballet classes are an eclectic mix of Ballet training incorporating many different schools and methods of Ballet. There is no formal testing by a certification body at the end of the year as there is with R.A.D. and Cecchetti.

Competitions - Dance Dimensions participates in a number of competitions each year. Competitions and conventions provide performance and learning opportunities where students perfect their technique with the broader dance community from other studios. We are very proud of our history of competition and have several national titles to show for it.

Performing Company - Starbound. Over twenty-five years of tradition, Starbound has many alumni who dance and teach professionally.

Concert - since opening our doors we have produced a totally professional spring concert every year at the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium in Longmont. Forget the "lights on - lights off" attitude and be entertained with full theatrical lights, special effects, beautiful costumes and exciting choreography. We are proud of our shows. Professionals who have seen tapes of it are truly impressed. These are your children and our students and they deserve to be fully respected by the presentation.

City Program - Dance Dimensions offers session classes through the City of Longmont's recreation program. These are classes that give an inexpensive opportunity for children to experience dance. It is our belief that every child will benefit from being exposed to the art of dance and this is one of our outreach programs.

Summer Intensive Program - for the summer Dance Dimensions offers a series of various classes and programs which compress a summer's worth of dance into three or four weeks. As well as these intensives there are other classes on other schedules during the summer.
HISTORY
Our first home was at 1113  Kimbark street. Over twenty years ago we opened our doors with five teachers and had two dance rooms. At that location we put on two productions at Vance Brand Civic Auditorium; the Nutcracker in conjunction with Ballet Images of Boulder and our first dance concert entitled "Reach for the Stars".  Louise Leise, the artistic director of Dance Dimensions,  had been the director of Boulder's Civic Dance Program for five years before starting the studio. She had more than doubled the Boulder City program in those five years. From Kimbark we went to 627 Main Street for four years, which is just across the street from our present location. From there we went around the corner to 636 Coffman street. The studio stayed there for ten years before making our last move to our present location at 638 Main St.
