Competition Class
Competition class is for younger students ages 8 - 11 who want to compete and work towards becoming members of Starbound.
  • Dancers that wish to audition for competition class must be age 8 through 11 years.
  • For dancers already attending Dance Dimensions, there is currently a sign-up sheet posted at the studio.  For dancers not currently enrolled at Dance Dimensions, please call the studio at 303-772-3750 if interested in auditioning for the Competition Class.

Competition Class Requirements
  • Competition Class dancers may audition without the stipulation of attending Dance Dimensions throughout the regular year.
  • Summer classes are required for all Competition Class members as well as a ballet, jazz and tap class throughout the year.
  • All Starbound Company members and Competition Class are required to sign a contract that is in effect from the beginning of the season through our annual mall show in August.
  • There is a one time fee to cover extra rehearsals and miscellaneous expenses. This fee is expected to be $175 for the 2008-2009 season.
  • It is expected that dancers commit to finishing out the dance year and realize that it is not acceptable to terminate prematurely unless there is a physical reason.  There is a great deal of effort to bond the Competition Class.  It is also a tremendous amount of work by the choreographers to re-stage a piece. It impacts already busy dancers having to go back into rehearsal if one does not honor their commitment. The Competition Class is a team that works together and cannot function if students and parents are not aware of how their participation affects others.
  • The commitment for the Competition Class is one convention, 3 regular dance competitions and studio master classes.
  • In addition to the conventions and competitions is performing for our annual Dairy Center show, numerous street festivals, community functions and concert.
  • To be in competition class both dancers and their parents must sign contracts. This is to ensure that all students and parents are aware of the details of their commitment.
  • We expect that the honor of making Company or Competition Class be taken seriously!  Commitment is essential.

Audition Information
  • For students who are already enrolled at Dance Dimensions, 50% of the  audition evaluation is the teacher evaluations from each one of the teachers that has had the dancer in the classroom. This evaluation addresses classroom behavior as well as tardiness and absences. It also addresses work ethics and the desire to improve.
  • Each dancer is required to write a short essay on why they want to be a Starbound Dancer or in the Competition Class.  This essay will be taken into consideration for new dancers to the studio since the teacher evaluation is not possible.
  • A copy of the audition score sheets are posted online so the criteria for the audition can be viewed.  Please call if you have any other questions concerning auditions (303-772-3750).
